IHS Parents & supporters – Here’s Boo’s News for May, including IHS updates from IHS Principal Dr. Andrew Yoxsimer from last night’s online meeting, and ideas for coping with COVID.

BOOSTERS VIRTUAL MEETING – ONLINE WITH DR. WTP WIN – Congratulations to the IHS We The People team, teachers and coaches on their outstanding performance in the National Finals Competition this weekend. You are all, indeed, constitutional warriors!

Milton Hyams, who leads this program, weighed in on this year’s team: “This group of students was completely extraordinary… they were a true team: hard working, resilient and supportive. With the challenges we all face their hard work is a testament to how a team that does not turn inward during crisis but steps up to support each other can achieve big things. They could have backed down to the challenge… instead they stepped up for each other. Our senior class of 60-something produced a national caliber team that came home with a national recognition!! On game day unit 3 was flawless! We all should celebrate this group of 13 for being there for each other and seeing this journey they began last spring to a beautiful conclusion.”

PANDEMIC PHILANTHROPY – We are entering a challenging season of great need.  If you are fortunate enough to have time or resources to contribute, here are some easy ways to benefit our students, IHS and this wonderful community:

• 

  HUNGER RELIEF – Incline Serves has teamed up with the NLT Boys & Girls Club and the Incline Rotary Foundation to help both our local restaurants and those in need of hunger relief.
  
  This initiative is raising money to pay for meals – which helps keep our restaurants afloat – and donates them to our local families struggling to make ends meet.  If you can help, please go to this website to donate:  inclineserves.org
  
  
• Feed our Hospital Heroes.The Rotary Club of Tahoe-Incline is coordinating an effort to “Feed our Heroes” at Incline Village Community Hospital.  They seek weekly donations of meals, desserts and/or drinks for the staff of 20.  Details and signups here.
  
• Join the Boosters; serve on our Board.More now than ever, IHS students and staff need your support.  Join boosters today, and if you have a little extra time and energy, consider joining our Board for the 2020-21 academic year – or serve on a committee.  Simply reply or inquire here; we’ll feature candidates in our May 13 online meeting.
  
  
• Contribute to our Technology Fund-a-Need.IHS is fortunate to have 1-to-1 computing resources and “digital day” programming in place to support remote teaching during this COVID-19 outbreak.  We need new laptops to replace obsolete teacher desktops and to supply a very large incoming Freshman class.  We also seek funds for investments in modern smart boards, teaching tools, and a projector and screen for the theater currently under renovation, and more.
